Each year at homecoming, the University of Utah honors six exceptional undergraduate students who exemplify academic excellence, campus involvement, and community service. This year’s homecoming court included two remarkable seniors from the School of Biological Sciences (SBS): Isabel DuBay and Gaby Karakcheyeva.

Isabel DuBay has given back to the SBS community as a student leader in her roles as a communications intern and teaching assistant for the undergraduate anatomy program. She is dedicated to mentoring and supporting students and has brought the biology student experience to life through her compelling story content. Fluent in Spanish and passionate about biology, Isabel aspires to attend medical school and advance patient advocacy and health equity, a motivation shaped by her work with the Maliheh Clinic and the UAF Legacy Health. Outside of science, she is a member of the U of U dance club and enjoys performing at collegiate events.

Gaby Karakcheyeva is a dedicated campus leader and passionate advocate. She serves as Executive Director of the Feed U Pantry, is an active member of the Union Programming Council, a university ambassador, and a research assistant. Gaby founded the U of U Wildlife Society chapter and has volunteered and interned extensively at Tracy Aviary, Hawk Watch, and Great Salt Lake Audubon. When she’s not studying or volunteering, she enjoys wildlife photography, bird walks, hiking, skiing, spin classes, and exploring new food spots around Salt Lake City. After graduation, Gaby plans to pursue graduate studies in wildlife biology and conservation to further her commitment to protecting natural habitats.
