Lauryn Roth
Medical Student
University of Utah School of Medicine

Lauryn Roth

Lauryn received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Environmental Studies from the University of Utah in 2013.  She is currently a medical student at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She has only been in medical for a short time, but so far has found that she loves the content of her new classes and appreciates the incredible individuals in the program.

How has your participation in the Bioscience Program had an impact on your career?
The Bioscience Undergraduate Research Program made my dream of going to medical school possible. I had no idea how to get involved in research- but BioURP gave me the resources to find the right lab for me. Furthermore, BioURP exposed me to biology students who were nerds just like me. I will be forever grateful of the friendships I formed through this program.

What advice would you give current students who aspire to follow a similar career path?
It is important to do what you love so that you will enjoy the journey towards your dream. Commit to everything you do entirely, value the experience you have, and thank all the people that help you along the way.

What accomplishments are you most proud of (professionally and/or personally)?
The academic achievement I am most proud of is having presented my own research project in front of my BioURP classmates and at the Bioscience Symposium.

What do you enjoy doing with your free time?  Family?  Hobbies?  Interests?
Utah is a great place to learn to love being outside. I like to go hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, biking, swimming, skiing, along with any other outdoors activity.
