My research involves using isotopes to study processes at and near the Earth's surface. Recently my research group has been studying the timing of the global expansion of C4 grasses between 5 and 8 million years ago, and its effect on mammalian evolution. These studies include work in conservation biology, studies of modern animal physiology using stable isotopes as natural tracers, as well as studies of dietary changes taking place in mammalian lineages over millions of years. In addition, my interests lie in the development of landforms in semi-arid regions and their history of climate and vegetation change over the last million years.
