Collection: Caterpillar collections were started in 1996 and are on-going. One or two people have worked full time throughout the year making collections. Because our initial interest was to determine herbivores on our study species, our collections have been biased towards those host plants, with a particular emphasis on Inga (Fabaceae). Most species are common shade-tolerant species, including woody vines, shrubs and trees. All collections were made on small plants that could be reached by collectors from the ground. Caterpillars were reared at ambient temperature on leaves from the species on which they were collected.
Identification: Adult specimens have been sent to expert taxonomists for identification. Most are awaiting names.
Vouchers: In addition to the specimens that have been sent out for identification, pinned adults are stored on Barro Colorado Island in the laboratory of Drs. Coley and Kursar.
