Illness Policy

Children with the following conditions may not attend school:

Fever

Children need to be fever free for 24 hours without the administration of any kind of fever-reducing medication. You will be notified if your child develops a fever over 101 while at BioKids.

Diarrhea and/or vomiting

Two or more episodes of vomiting or explosive diarrhea call for exclusion from school.

Children may return to school 24 hours after last episode.

Rash or skin lesions

Please provide a doctor’s note indicating the condition is not contagious.

Evidence of pain from ears, throat or any other source

Children in pain require one-on-one attention and therefore will need to go home.

Symptoms of conjunctivitis (“pink eye”)

Puffy, goopy, red, crusty, watery eyes need to be checked by a physician.

Eye drops need to be administered for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

Strep throat

Children may return after being treated with antibiotics for 24 hours.

Flu

May be intestinal or respiratory, depending on the strain. Please keep your child at home until they are well enough to participate in routine school activities.

Symptoms indicating onset of a cold

Coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, general malaise make it difficult to enjoy being at school and also indicate that a child is contagious.

In order to maintain appropriate child-staff ratios, you will be contacted if your child is requiring one-on-one care for any reason. If children are brought to school with any of these conditions, or if symptoms develop over the course of the school day, parents will be notified and are expected to make arrangements for their child to be picked up immediately.

Parents are required to notify BioKids staff if your child has a communicable disease (strep throat, chicken pox, flu, conjunctivitis, lice).
