What it is and does. This is the Department of Biology's "official"
web site. It provides information about our people, about their research
and teaching activities, about undergraduate and graduate study
opportunities, and about seminars and other academic programs of the
Department. It also provides links to web sites maintained by individual
instructors, investigators and laboratories, to sites maintained by other
bioscience departments and programs within the University (and elsewhere),
and to a variety of information resources of interest to biologists.
What it can't do. We attempt to provide accurate and timely
information, but errors are inevitable. We will be grateful for reports
of serious inaccuracies, omissions or bugs. Please direct comments to
. The University's no-nonsense Disclaimer covers the legalities. We'll just say
"we're sorry" (sincerely) if you suffer inconvenience because we made a
mistake. Unless otherwise indicated, the content of this site is
protected by University and Department copyrights and should not be
duplicated (except for individual non-commercial use) or redistributed
without permission from the Department. Any trademarks mentioned here are

Who's to blame. The site is designed and maintained by a Web Site
Committee whose current and recent membership includes Jon Seger (Chair), Larry
Okun (CEO), Dave Gard, David Goldenberg, Franz Goller, Ed King, Fred Montague,
Sandy Parkinson, and David Wolstenholme, with invaluable help from Josh Cherry,
E'lise Collins, Connie Fox, Julie Gerstner, Annie Kartchner, Shannon Nielsen,
Theresa Nydam, Ann Sherratt and Karen Zundel, among others.
How it works. Most pages include at least some variable content
that is generated on demand by server-side scripts written in PHP, using information
retrieved from a MySQL
database. We try to conform at least approximately to the HTML 4.01 standard, and we use
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The pages will look best on browsers that
properly support these standards.
